Mpanga forest

Mpanga forest, not far from Kampala, covers an area of 45 sq. km of a dense rainforest. Even if it has not achieved the status of national park, offers the chance to see many species of mammals like Bushpigs, monkeys, bushbucks, flying squirrels.

Among the 180 bird species we remember the Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Black-and-white-casqued Hornbill, African Pied Hornbill, Gray Parrot and Great Blue Turaco. There are also many species of butterflies.

There are different hiking trails in the forest of different lengths ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours in duration.

There are also two small but important shrines: one similar to the Kasubi tombs dedicated to king Nakibinge, the other dedicated to a god of war.
